Like so many of you, I try not to merely frame my education in
terms of time spent in school. Life in general, and technology careers
in particular require a comprehensive, lifelong approach to education.
When mentoring staff and students interested in a career in technology
or technology management, I always stress the importance of self-guided
education. These fields are so broad and complex that formal education
and work training could never prepare one for success in them. As
a result, one of the most important efforts in managing one's career
is continuous and aggressive approach to seeking out education.
While a public high school student I sought out other forms of
education and life experiences. As a high school student I studied
Marine Sciences and Biology in Big Pine Key, outdoor and survival
skills in along the Continental Divide, in Wyoming.
Following High School I studied science, mathematics and business
at Tulane University. I was accepted into a study-abroad program
at Cambridge University which included international business, economics
and an internship for British Railways.
